Description
Lakes Region EMS is seeking its next Executive Director as part of a planned leadership succession in anticipation of Aarron Reinert’s retirement at the end of 2026, following 25 years of service to the organization. Aarron’s leadership has been integral to Lakes Region EMS’s growth, stability, and reputation for excellence.
To support a successful transition and long-term organizational stability, this search is being conducted in advance. The selected Executive Director will participate in a structured transition period, working alongside Aarron to support continuity, relationship-building, and strategic alignment, reflecting Lakes Region EMS’s commitment to strong leadership, culture, and continued commitment to the communities we serve.
The Executive Director role at Lakes Region EMS has overall responsibility and accountability for the planning and direction of the organization, exercising authority and oversight directly and indirectly through leadership staff, employees, and external consultants. In this role, the Executive Director will provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership to ensure effective delivery of emergency medical and medical transportation services. Serving as a resource to staff to develop, implement, and evaluate EMS operations and clinical practices, and lead the development and execution of operational and strategic plans.
The Executive Director maintains executive accountability for compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, while ensuring effective organizational performance and responsible stewardship. In partnership with the Board of Directors and community stakeholders, the Executive Director ensures organizational sustainability and alignment with the mission and values of Lakes Region EMS.

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree
Executive or senior leadership experience
Nonprofit management and financial oversight
EMS operational experience
Commitment and ability to pursue and obtain a Master’s degree in a related field within a timeframe agreed upon with the Board of Directors.
Preferred
Professional licensure or certification
Experience with remote/rural EMS service delivery
Legislative, policy, or advocacy experience
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the Executive Director role at Lakes Region EMS should be a strategic, ethical, and results-oriented leader with strong judgment, financial stewardship, and operational and clinical expertise. Knowledge of EMS operations, healthcare compliance, and organizational best practices would also set a candidate apart.
The ideal candidate fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, modeling Lakes Region EMS values. Effective communication with a skillset to build strong relationships engaging staff, the Board, community partners, and industry stakeholders is necessary.
Proactive in identifying challenges and opportunities, the ideal candidate should drive the execution of operational and strategic initiatives to ensure long-term organizational sustainability and mission alignment.
Compensation
Starting salary range between $160,000–$200,000, depending on experience, with eligibility for up to 30% performance-based executive bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package, including group benefits, 401(k), company vehicle and phone, and relocation assistance (as needed).
