- Development Director
Description
Who we are:
Our mission is to enhance the well-being of children from low-income communities through connection with the natural world — and to do so through a lens of social justice, equity, and inclusion. We envision a world where every child experiences nature as a source of joy, health, and belonging, and where caring for nature strengthens communities.
We’re a small-but-mighty nonprofit serving over 3,500 youth annually through outdoor programs that spark curiosity, confidence, and connection.
Job Summary:
We’re seeking a Development Director who’s ready to bring a big heart and sharp strategy to a mission that matters. We are looking for a new team member who’s part strategist, part storyteller, part relationship-builder and 100% committed to helping our organization grow.
If you love the outdoors, believe in equitable access to nature, and know how to turn passion into support — this is your next adventure.
You’ll lead FNL’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts, partnering with our Executive Director and a committed Board to build a vibrant “Culture of Philanthropy.” You’ll craft compelling campaigns, nurture authentic donor relationships, and celebrate the power of giving — all while helping more children experience the magic of nature connection.
Fundraising Strategy & Leadership (30%)
- Partner with the Executive Director to design and execute an annual fundraising and communications plan.
- Cultivate and steward individual donors and corporate sponsors with creativity and care.
- Support the Board’s Development Committee and contribute to a year-round rhythm of fundraising activity.
Major Gifts & Individual Giving (50%)
- Manage a portfolio of major donors ($500+), with personalized cultivation and stewardship strategies.
- Build relationships that last — from first gift to lifelong partnership.
- Collaborate with the ED and Communications Manager to tell powerful stories through newsletters, appeals, and digital campaigns.
- Oversee donor recognition and accurate database tracking (Little Green Light).
Events & Experiences (20%)
- Plan and execute 8–15 meaningful donor events per year (Wine & Walks, small gatherings, and unique on-site experiences).
- Create moments that connect people emotionally to our mission — and inspire generosity.
- Coordinate sponsorships and event-based fundraising with flair and follow-through.
Applicants from low-income backgrounds and/or people who identify as BIPOC (Black, indigenous, and people of color) are strongly encouraged to apply.
Farrington Nature Linc is committed to becoming an anti-racist organization and as such is moving toward a Community Centric model of fundraising.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- 6–8+ years in nonprofit fundraising, with experience managing individual donors and events.
Confident asking for — and closing — $10K+ gifts. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, fundraising databases (Little Green Light a plus), and social media engagement.
- Strong project management and communication skills; you thrive on turning big ideas into action.
Mindset & Values
- You love nature — and you believe everyone should have access to it.
- Discreet with donor information and big on integrity
- You bring humility, heart, and a deep commitment to equity and anti-racism.
- You’re at home in a small, collaborative team that rolls up its sleeves and gets the work done. We all jump in where needed: answering emails, setting up for events, or proofreading a flyer. If that kind of teamwork makes you smile, you’ll fit right in.
- Comfortable in a small, shared office (with lots of trails to walk for thinking things through).
- You’re a self-starter who “manages up,” solves problems, and meets deadlines with positivity and humor.
