The Director of Grants & Contracts (Pre and Post Award) in the Department of Emergency Medicine is responsible for managing and directing a portfolio of over $10M in sponsored projects from NIH, Department of Defense, other federal sponsors, foundations, and industry. Work includes proposal development and submission and overseeing post-award management. This position will develop processes and oversee staff in order to ensure compliance with all sponsor and federal guidelines. This position will work with faculty to establish metrics and innovations to improve and grow this portfolio.
Job Summary
Directs pre- and post-award operations for University grants and contracts. Facilitates authorization and submission of all proposals to funding agencies and directs negotiations of grant and contract award terms and conditions. Improves standard policies and operating procedures and prepares budget.
Essential Functions
This position covers the activities related to the full lifecycle of sponsored program administration including identification of funding sources, proposal submission, sub-award issuance, and post-award administration (both financial and non-financial) related to funding provided in the form of gifts, grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts from external/internal funding sources (e.g., federal agencies, state agencies, private companies, or foundations) that provide support for research.
Responsibilities include:
- Submission of final technical, monthly, quarterly annual reports and proposal preparation by reviewing sponsor guidelines and university guidelines and preparing proposal checklists.
- Closing Memos for Sponsored Research Accounting
- Account Reconciliation
- Coordinating proposal development, faculty financial reports
- Developing, finalizing, and/or approving proposal budget and cost share; preparing required forms, representations and certifications, and budget justification; obtaining cost share approvals
- Preparing requests for sponsor approval of budget revisions
- Submission of standard proposal documents including required forms, representations and certifications, and budgets
- Facilitating materials transfer and other agreements; assisting Property Inventory with receipt, accountability, and reporting on government-owned equipment
- Initiating requests for advance account numbers and subawards
- Monitoring end dates of projects/funds
- Managing work activities in a large volume, fast-paced, complex, detailed, and multifaceted environment
- Prioritizing timelines/schedules through interpretation of potential funding opportunities and holding the proposal team accountable

Mainly sedentary but must be able to navigate University setting.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
