Findlay Country Club is a private 18-hole facility designed by Tom Bendelow and in continuous operation since 1908. Position Overview
The Director of Grounds is responsible for the overall maintenance, management, and long-range planning of the golf course and all club grounds. This is a hands-on, senior leadership role that requires strong agronomic expertise, team development, budgeting, and the ability to make sound decisions in a dynamic, member-focused environment.
Position Description
- The Director of Grounds will report directly to the General Manager/COO and work closely with the Head Golf Professional and Grounds Committee.
- Maintain all grounds and course maintenance equipment in line with the club's turf management program.
- Lead, mentor, schedule, train, and evaluate all grounds and maintenance team members; maintain accurate work and personnel records.
- Oversee all maintenance of the golf course and club grounds.
- Service and maintain parking lots, driveways and pathways during winter months.
- Supervise and coordinate horticulture. Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of all property landscaping.
- Ensure the course is maintained in top playing condition.
- Prepare and manage the annual department budget, monitoring expenses and taking corrective action as necessary to achieve financial goals.
- Develop and execute short- and long-range plans for the golf course and club grounds.
- Manage and maintain all drainage and irrigation systems.
- Keep accurate records of equipment, budgets, weather, fertilizer/chemical applications and daily course maintenance activities.
- Manage the use, storage, and disposal of chemicals, petroleum, and other regulated products, maintaining all required records and minimizing environmental impact.
- Communicate regularly with the GM/COO, Golf Professional and Grounds Committee regarding course conditions, course restrictions, maintenance plans, tournament schedules, and rounds played.
- Keep members informed about current and upcoming maintenance activities and course impacts.
- Plan and oversee professional development and safety training for the team.
- Make recommendations for capital improvements and major purchases; coordinate work with outside contractors as needed.
- Participate in management meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager/COO.
Requirements
- Degree or certification in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or as a highly qualified Assistant Superintendent ready to move into a top role.
- Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) designation strongly preferred.
Course Operation

- 125 maintained acres
- Peak season of April-October
- 16,000 rounds per year
- Mix of Bent and Poa
- Average daily green speed is 10.5-11.5
- 20-24 in-season staff and 8-10 year-round staff

Compensation and Benefits
A competitive salary commensurate with experience, bonus potential, and benefits, which include health insurance and life insurance coverage, paid time off, 401K, GCSAA dues and fees, phone allowance, meals, and golf.
