SummaryThompson Palm Springs is seeking an accomplished Director of Outdoor Experience to join our resort's Leadership Team. This Daylife driven position is critical to the operations of the resort guest experience.
As the desert's most distinctive lifestyle resort, Thompson Palm Springs captures the essence of modern luxury through design, energy, and experience. Located on iconic Palm Canyon Drive, the resort features 168 bungalow-inspired rooms and suites, multiple dining concepts, two expansive resort pools, and panoramic mountain views-all designed to immerse guests in the beauty and culture of Palm Springs.
The Director of Outdoor Experience plays a pivotal role in orchestrating all outdoor guest experiences, overseeing pool operations, cabana and daybed programming, pool bar operations, service, and the exclusive "Upper Stories" pool experience. This highly visible leader ensures a seamless, elevated, and high-touch resort experience that embodies the Thompson brand's signature sophistication and sense of place. Reporting directly to Director of Food & Beverage and Director of Hotel Operations. This individual will lead a dynamic team focused on delivering intuitive service, vibrant social energy, and exceptional financial performance across all outdoor venues.
Responsibilities Include:
• Lead all aspects of outdoor resort operations, including pool decks, pool bars, cabanas, daybeds, and VIP resort programming.
• Oversee daily operations and programming of Upper Stories, including morning setup, staff scheduling, and ensuring the space is guest-ready and aligned with brand standards.
• Maintain a constant and engaging presence throughout outdoor spaces to ensure exceptional guest interactions, proactive service recovery, and consistent brand delivery.
• Partner with Food & Beverage, Events, Marketing and Guest Experience teams to curate memorable resort activations, from lively weekend atmospheres to private events and seasonal experiences.
• Oversee the financial performance of outdoor operations, including revenue management, labor planning, and expense control P&L responsibility.
• Ensure operational excellence in cleanliness, safety, and presentation throughout all outdoor venues and spaces of the resort.
• Recruit, train, and develop a passionate team of pool, bar, and guest service professionals-fostering a culture of care, creativity, and accountability.
• Collaborate closely with the Director of Hotel Operations and Director of Food & Beverage to align service standards, brand expectations, and financial goals.
• Maintain strong relationships with guests and local partners to reinforce Thompson Palm Springs as the desert's premier luxury resort destination.
• Lead by example, setting the tone for approachable luxury, genuine hospitality, and effortless service.
• This position will primarily work in an outdoor setting, during peak periods of operations mid-day including weekends. This leader will also occasionally assist in other F&B outlets as needed.
This is an exempt (salaried) role. The budgeted salary range for this position is $70,000 to $104,700 . This is the pay range for this position that Thompson Palm Springs reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors including experience and education.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a high-volume F&B setting, resort, pool, or outdoor operations; luxury or lifestyle brand experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional guest experiences while balancing financial discipline and operational efficiency.
• Proven success managing high-volume, high-visibility pool or outdoor venues.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a hands-on, guest-centric approach.
• Expertise in team development, scheduling, training, and performance management.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and POS systems; Hyatt systems experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred.
