Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore has an exciting opportunity for a Directory of Student Services to join the School of Social Work (SSW). The Director of Student Services is responsible for leading student support and engagement initiatives across SSW, guiding students from enrollment through graduation. This highly engaged and enthusiastic student affairs professional will oversee programs and services that ensure students have access to academic, personal, and professional resources. The role manages major initiatives such as student events, community‑building programs, and school-wide projects that enhance the overall student experience.
The ideal candidate brings strong project development and assessment experience, with the ability to design and implement data‑informed programming. Interest and experience in alternative dispute resolution, restorative justice, and/or inter-group dialogue is preferred. The Director of Student Services collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and student leaders to advance schoolwide priorities and foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.

UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.
Primary Duties:
- Provide early intervention and ongoing support to students with high-level socioemotional, personal, and academic needs.
- Serve as a referral agent to appropriate campus and community resources, collaborating closely with counseling, academic support, and interprofessional partners.
- Serve as first point of contact for teaching faculty for student issues related to psychosocial needs, classroom concerns, etc.
- Conduct ongoing program assessments to inform program development, implementation, and continuous improvement.
- Plan and facilitate major student events including onboarding, orientation, convocation, and other programming.
- Serve as advisor and mentor to the student leadership coalition, providing guidance on governance, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness.
- Partner with student leaders and committee chairs to ensure meaningful student representation on school-level and university committees.
- Collaborate with student leaders to facilitate constructive dialogue within the student body, addressing areas of shared interest, concern, and institutional improvement.
- Serve on SSW and UMB committees, contributing to policy development, program assessment, and institutional initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Master's degree or additional certification in social work, counseling, student affairs, education administration or related field can be substituted for two years of experience. Master's in Social Work strongly preferred.
Experience: Seven (7) years of progressive experience working with college students is required. Experience working with graduate students is preferred.
Supervisory Experience: Four (4) years of work coordination, training, or supervision.
Preferred Certification/Licensure: Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) or Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C).
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.

Hiring Range: $99,000 - $107,000, commensurate with education and experience.
