POSITION SUMMARY
CVS Health is hiring a Lead Director, AI/ML Solutions Engineering & Delivery to deliver better health outcomes by meeting consumers where they are-through local care, digital experiences, and a nationwide team committed to quality, safety, and affordability.
The Solutions Engineering and Infrastructure organization is building an enterprise AI/ML capability that delivers reliable, responsible, and secure AI-powered platforms and solutions at Fortune 5 scale. This role is foundational to developing that capability.
Reporting to the Executive Director of AI/ML, this leader will build and lead a Forward Deployment engineering and Delivery Factory team embedding with leaders in IT Operations, Security, and Observability to deliver AI Ops solutions and products. The role partners closely with leaders and engineers across IT Operations, Security, AI/ML, Observability, and Product to establish standards, frameworks, and massively scalable architectures while leading end-to-end delivery from proposal and prototype through production and enterprise adoption.
This is a U.S.-based remote position; candidates must reside within the United States.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Innovation-to-Production Execution
Partner with technical leaders (in IT Ops & Cybersecurity) to define project scope, shape proposals, build trust, and ensure successful adoption
Own the technical vision and end-to-end delivery of agentic and native AI/ML solutions, bridging the gap between product capabilities and customer-specific needs.
Rapidly build proof of concepts/prototypes and validate new use cases with measurable success criteria (i.e.: OKRs and KPIs) with stakeholders.
Scale proven prototypes into production-grade solutions or reusable products.
Solution Architecture & Technical Leadership
Define and operationalize engineering and delivery standards for agentic and AI/ML-native applications.
Collaborate with Solutions Architecture on design reviews for high-impact initiatives; identify cross-domain risks (security, privacy, resiliency, data quality, cost) and drive mitigation plans.
Design Agentic AI systems that are distributed, fault-tolerant systems for real-time and batch workloads, supporting high-throughput inference, low-latency APIs, and multi-tenant enterprise usage.
People Management & Thought Leadership
Lead, hire, and mentor high-performing Forward Deployment Engineers, and Technical Product Managers fostering a culture of technical excellence and high-speed execution.
Enforces strong project management and agile methodology principles as part of every delivery cycle
Raise engineering quality through coaching, trainings, design patterns, and technical onboarding materials.
Build internal playbooks and templates (golden paths) to accelerate delivery and ensure compliance with standards.
Guide the team in resolving complex technical obstacles, including API integration, security, data infrastructure, and system performance tuning.
Serve as a technical liaison to peer AI/ML leaders across CVS Health to promote reuse, interoperability, and consistent practices.
Financial and Vendor Management
Manage proposals, project estimates, budgets, chargeback models and vendor relationships for all delivery work and service providers, ensuring value, performance, and compliance.
Establish operating rhythms, performance metrics, and transparent reporting for delivery, project health, and costs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Require 10+ years of experience in the below -
Progressively responsible leadership in software engineering, delivering enterprise-grade platforms and distributed systems in regulated environments.
Program and delivery leadership managing multiple concurrent initiatives, driving large-scale execution across cross-functional teams.
Cloud and platform engineering expertise across Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, secure software supply chains, and modern distributed architectures.
Designing scalable, resilient systems using APIs, event-driven architectures, data pipelines, and multi-tenant platforms.
Advanced AI application and lifecycle capabilities including LLMs, RAG, embeddings, evaluation frameworks, monitoring, drift detection, and AI-specific CI/CD practices.
5+ years building and scaling AI/ML systems, including GenAI and agentic AI, with end-to-end ownership from architecture to production.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Acts as a trusted advisor, providing expert guidance within a technical specialization to enhance the effectiveness of complex initiatives.
Experience advising on scaling AI/ML platforms and ensuring adherence to technical strategies, standards, and policies.
Strong technical acumen with the ability to apply deep knowledge of specific technologies to practical solutions.
Demonstrated thought leadership and awareness of emerging AI/ML industry trends and best practices.
Strong presentation skills, including the ability to create clear, compelling executive-level materials and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills, translating complex tradeoffs into clear recommendations and executable plans.
Proven program and project management experience leading multiple initiatives in parallel.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience).

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
