JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is seeking an Investment Operations Analyst to join as a key member of an eight-person investment team responsible for managing the $2.3 billion endowment. The Investment Operations Analyst is an integral member of the investment team, reporting to the Director of Investment Operations and interacting regularly with the entire investment team. All investment team members implement the investment policy guidelines established by the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Investment Operations Analyst will assist with cash management, reconciliation, manager support, data management, and general support of a broadly diversified portfolio composed of investments in asset classes that include public equity, fixed income, private credit, hedge funds, private equity, and venture capital. Assignments and duties of the Investment Operations Analyst include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cash Management and Reconciliation:
Prepare bank and trade instructions for processing.
Monitor and reconcile daily cash flow activity and reconcile discrepancies with Custodian.
Prepare cash flow forecasting and allocation reporting, manager valuation reconciliations, and monthly portfolio performance reports.
Data Management:
Monitor investment manager communications; gather, review, and input relevant data into systems.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of data feeds across internal and third-party systems, maintain up-to-date manager records and documentation, collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot issues, and reconcile discrepancies as needed.
Evaluate data infrastructure and build and maintain automated pipelines to ingest, clean, and validate data.
Maintain and update operating procedure documentation for data workflows and integrations.
Investment Operations & Manager Support:
Onboard new investments and record transactions, including but not limited to account opening, cash flow processing, valuations, liquidity terms, and document management.
Support audit, tax, and other regulatory filings.
Monitor investment manager requests and coordinate with responsible investment team members.
Implement data visualization using Tableau or Power BI dashboards for performance measurement, risk analytics, and investment reporting.
Identify workflow improvements; recommend enhancements as appropriate.
Interact with other departments, as needed, on investment-related issues/matters.
Perform other duties and ad-hoc projects, as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
The Investment Operations Analyst position requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, data science or equivalent and one-to-four years of substantive investment operations experience. Desirable experience includes investment operations at an endowment, foundation, or investment management firm, with a good understanding of business, legal, and accounting considerations related to alternative investments and capital markets.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The Investment Operations Analyst position requires a broad knowledge of and passion for investment markets, instruments, and practices.
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail; proactive, self-motivated, and able to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated critical thinking and sound judgment in evaluating and resolving operational issues.
Technical proficiency in Excel and reporting/visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau), with openness to adopting new tools, systems, and methodologies.
Experience with Python, SQL, VBA, or similar programming experience is a plus.
Experience with investment operations platforms such as BNY Nexen, CAISSA/Total Plan, Fundamatic, and Bipsync is a plus.
Experience in project management, including the ability to interpret project requirements, develop timelines, and ensure timely and accurate delivery.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to deal tactfully and equitably with people and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated desire to learn and grow as an investment operations professional, ability to evaluate and resolve operational issues and keep up to date on the latest market news, industry practices, and technology applications.
The Investment Operations Analyst will be expected to work in the Sloan Foundation’s New York City, Rockefeller Center based, office Tuesday – Thursday and may work remotely on Mondays and Fridays except when job-related commitments require presence in the office.
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000.
