Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries, the Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator is responsible for the implementation, development, configuration, maintenance, and support of the learning management system and related technologies at Roger Williams University.
Essential Functions / Characteristics
Administer, configure, and maintain the LMS, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience.
Manage LMS transition projects, including data migration, system integration, and end user training.
Oversee the integration and management of third-party instructional technologies and tools within the LMS.
Collaborate cross-departmentally with IT, instructional designers, academic affairs, the libraries, faculty, and other stakeholders to align LMS functionality with institutional needs.
Manage SIS integrations, authentication protocols (e.g., SSO, LTI, API connections), and data security measures.
Provide 1st and 2nd tier support, providing advanced troubleshooting and technical support for LMS-related issues.
Develop and deliver faculty and staff training on LMS tools, best practices, and emerging technologies.
Help other Instructional Technologists and part-time employees, providing guidance and leadership in instructional technology.
Prepare and revise documentation materials for end-users, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
Keep departments and faculty informed of relevant trends in technology, determining product positioning and communication plans for new learning technologies.
Evaluate, test, and advise on new instructional technologies, including streaming and digital multimedia tools.
Manage site-wide configuration settings, initial course templates, and branding of the LMS application interface.
Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and enforce LMS policies, governance, and system updates.
Stay current on LMS trends, updates, and best practices to enhance the learning environment.
Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for LMS configurations, integrations, user guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree.
2-3 year of relevant experience.
Experience configuring and managing an LMS in a higher education or corporate learning environment.
Cross-departmental collaboration experience, including working with IT, academic leadership, and faculty.
Strong expertise in LMS integrations with Student Information Systems (SIS), authentication methods (SSO, LDAP, etc.), and API connections.
Proficiency in managing third-party instructional technology tools (e.g., video conferencing, proctoring, content authoring tools, etc.).
Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and training abilities, with experience in delivering LMS workshops and documentation.
Knowledge of data security, compliance, and accessibility standards in online learning environments.
Experience configuring SIS integration technology between an LMS and Banner/Colleague SIS, LDAP authentication, third-party vendors, and building blocks (e.g., Panopto).
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues on a production LMS, working directly with end-users to resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Brightspace (D2L) LMS.
Experience in leading an LMS transition, upgrade, or large-scale system implementation.
Prior experience as an Instructional Technologist or a similar role focused on educational technology.
Experience as a Project Lead or Lead Technologist for LMS implementations, upgrades, and integrations
Experience in change management and user adoption strategies for technology transitions.
Certifications related to LMS administration or instructional technology.
Familiarity with instructional design principles and best practices.
