Description
Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and passionate Outdoor Program Manager to lead and direct the design, development and execution of a robust year-round portfolio of relevant and engaging outdoor programming, events, summer camps, and high adventure experiences for girls in San Diego and Imperial counties.
In this Role, You’ll:
- Design, implement and manage a portfolio of high-quality, innovative, safe and engaging age- appropriate year-round outdoor programs, including summer camps and high adventure activities that align with council and GSUSA curriculum standards and progressions, and participant interests.
- Hire, train, and provide direction and leadership to outdoor program staff, seasonal employees, volunteers and community partners to ensure consistent, high quality program delivery and experiences.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment and continuously adapt strategies and techniques to meet the changing staff, volunteer and program needs.
- Develop and manage program budgets and monitor expenditures for cost effectiveness and alignment with program goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers and community partners to expand engagement and highlight the importance and relevancy of outdoor experiences for girls and families year-round.
- Ensure all programs meet GSUSA, council and ACA standards, safety activity checkpoints and local, state and federal regulations. Oversee camp accreditation, safety inspections, and risk mitigation practices.
- Negotiate and manage cost-effective vendor contracts to support seasonal and yearround programs and camp operations (i.e. food service, equine services, certifications).
- Partner with property and other teams to ensure facilities meet or exceed safety, accessibility and regulatory standards.
- Develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures for all outdoor and related programs and processes.
- Collaborate with the marketing department to plan and execute a year-round marketing strategy and collateral for outdoor programs and events.
- Keep current on trends in outdoor and experiential/adventure education and integrate best practices into program development.
- Provide active onsite leadership and presence at overnight summer camps (JuneAugust) to support effective camp operations, staff and camper experience.
- Model high levels of motivation, performance, and commitment. Create, implement, and support organization initiatives and policies.
- Provide responsive and timely support to staff, parents/caregivers, volunteers and community partners.
- Regularly evaluate program quality and relevance to ensure alignment with organizational goals, interest of girls ages 5-17, and program participants.
- Identify and develop new and innovative ways to enhance and deliver the outdoor program experience.
- Collect and analyze participation, staffing and budget data to inform planning and decision-making.
- Respond to and manage crises, emergencies, behavioral issues and medical situations.
- Promote and model inclusivity and cultural awareness across all outdoor programs.
- Perform other duties as needed to support team and organizational objectives.
What You Will Bring:
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience developing and managing outdoor youth programs, including day and overnight camps serving diverse populations.
- Minimum 3 years’ leadership experience managing and supervising diverse teams.
- Demonstrated success designing and implementing programming and events for both youth and adults.
- Knowledge and experience with ACA accreditation processes and guidelines, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations. Knowledge of Girl Scout programming preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills: ability to manage competing expectations and creatively and effectively use resources.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, parents/caregivers, community partners and vendors from diverse backgrounds.
- Adept at working with tight deadlines with an ability to shift priorities as needed.
- Skill and ability to problem-solve and effectively lead others through problem resolution.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and environments.
- Willingness and ability to reside onsite at overnight camps during the camp season (June – August).
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness of the various communities in San Diego and Imperial counties.
- Current lifeguard, challenge course, archery or related certifications are highly desired.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation; ability to travel to camp and program locations.

Hiring annual salary range: $74,500 - $78,500 (DOE)
