Med-Pediatrics - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26000881)
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to study the molecular basis of human neurodevelopmental syndromes. This multidisciplinary project focuses on understanding disease mechanisms and identifying therapeutic modifiers of neurological disorders. Specifically, the successful candidate will 1) examine the impact of disease-associated mutations on the physiological functions of RNA-binding proteins, 2) perform omics-based analyses to dissect molecular and cellular pathways underlying neurodevelopmental syndromes, and 3) identify pharmacological and genetic modifiers of a neurological syndrome using cellular and experimental model systems.
Expertise in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, and imaging is required. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in a biomedical field and possess strong written and verbal communication skills. A background in studying human neurological diseases, mouse models, and/or bioinformatics is preferred but not essential.
The postdoctoral fellow will play a central role in driving the research program, including co-managing and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate is expected to actively publish research findings, present data regularly at group meetings and scientific conferences, and contribute to the preparation of grant applications and fellowship proposals.
