Description
The VA Center for Integrated Healthcare (CIH) is a VHA Office of Mental Health Center of Excellence whose mission is to improve the quality of Veterans’ health care by enhancing the integration of mental health services into medical settings such as primary care. Our training faculty are national leaders in research, education, and clinical implementation initiatives to enhance the delivery of integrated care across the VA.
Postdoctoral psychology fellows work collaboratively with CIH mentors on research related to brief mental health interventions and assessment suited to integrated care. Numerous clinical research and implementation science opportunities are available. These include, but are not limited to, novel approaches to population-based mental health care related to depression, pain, PTSD, substance use disorders, and post-deployment care. Fellows receive didactics and supervised clinical experience in the Co-located, Collaborative Model of care (similar to the Primary Care Behavioral Health model). Additionally, fellows are provided with national teleconference and web-based didactic training opportunities. Clinical training is designed to develop a thorough understanding of the mental health and health behavior needs of Veterans in integrated care settings throughout the lifespan.
