Description
Position Summary:
Our group studies both genomic and non-genomic actions of thyroid hormones. Current projects map
membrane-initiated receptor/signaling networks—spanning cytokines, growth factors, and GPCR
pathways—that drive genomic, structural, and functional adaptations in the heart and vasculature. We
place special emphasis on β-adrenergic desensitization, septic cardiomyopathy, and vasoplegia, with the
long-term goal of informing the development of new therapeutics to improve survival in sepsis.
Approaches & Resources
You will join a collaborative team leveraging: - Molecular biology: cloning, vector design, EMSA, protein–
protein/DNA–protein interaction assays. - Cell & tissue platforms: primary cells, iPSC-derived
cardiomyocytes, tissue models. - Imaging & physiology: live-cell biosensors, super-resolution microscopy,
patch-clamp electrophysiology. - Omics: targeted proteomics and transcriptomics. - In vivo models: small
and large-animal models of septic shock and myocardial dysfunction.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments; analyze and interpret data with rigor and reproducibility. - Drive
manuscripts, figures, and conference abstracts/presentations. - Collaborate across cardiology, critical
care, and biostatistics teams; mentor junior trainees as appropriate. - Contribute to protocol/IRB/IACUC
documents and lab SOPs.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in Molecular & Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field. -
Hands-on expertise in core molecular and cell biology( e.g., cloning/construct design, PCR/qPCR, EMSA or
related DNA-binding assays, immunoblot/Co-IP, primary cell culture).
- Strong quantitative skills, clear scientific writing, and a record of productivity (publications or preprints).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GPCR/β-adrenergic or thyroid hormone signaling. - Proficiency in protein–protein
interaction assays, reporter systems, or chromatin methods. - Advanced live-cell imaging. - Familiarity
with animal models of cardiovascular disease or sepsis; AALAS/IACUC training.
Training Environment & Support
UC Davis offers an outstanding, interdisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art cores
(genomics, imaging, proteomics) and close ties to critical care and cardiology programs. The position
provides strong mentorship toward career independence and grant writing.
Appointment Details
- Start date: Flexible (review of applications begins immediately and continues until filled). - Term: 1-year
initial appointment, renewable based on performance and funding. - Compensation: Commensurate with
experience and aligned with UC/NIH guidelines; full UC benefits.
