POSITION DETAILS
Part-time, benefited; 48 hours per 2-week pay period; Variable day shifts Monday-Friday; Experience-based pay. Applicant must have 2-3 years of healthcare experience.
JOB SUMMARY
The Professional Development Specialist is responsible for coordination and tracking of in-service education, certification courses, competency completion and other coursework via the Learning Management System. The Specialist is also responsible for various administrative functions for Professional Development. The Specialist is regularly visible and accessible to serve as a resource for staff.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION
- Coordinates/facilitates required training for staff. Provides "just in time" education and/or assistance with skills on an as needed basis. This may include but is not limited to, the development and implementation of education activities such as instructor led courses, self-study, or computer assisted.
- Assists the departments in care and management of the online Learning Management System.
- Researches, designs, develops, coordinates and implements learning programs based on organizational and departmental needs.
- Works with unit managers in the analysis, development, implementation, testing and recording of staff competencies. Assists with maintaining required documentation elements for staff education and competency assessment.
- Facilitate the coordination and training related to certification programs to meet the needs of staff training and certification.
- Assists with developing an annual budget for training programs.
- Continually seeks educational opportunities to further gain knowledge of teaching and coordinating services that would be beneficial to Tomah Health.
- Maintains professional contacts through staff development peers and RWHC.
- Complies with Tomah Health Standards of Behavior.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma required.
- 2-3 years healthcare experience required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 6 months of hire

- Possess the following skills: excellent project management skills, strong computer skills and interest in technology, effective teaching/instructional skills, excellent oral and written communication, and critical thinking
- Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
- Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work with others.
- Needs to possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
- Ability to mentor and assist staff in professional growth.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Duties require normal vision and hearing for both phone and computer work.
- The Specialist is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The Specialist is required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Requires extended periods of sitting in one position and constant computer use.
- The Specialist must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
