Description
Grant Medical Center is an American College of Surgeons verified level 1 center in downtown Columbus, Ohio where we see approximately 7000 patients per year with over 6000 admissions. Combined with our other Ohiohealth trauma institutions we collect data on over 12,000 trauma patients per year.
Our research fellowship was founded in 2016 . In that time we have over 90 projects leading to multiple national publications as well as local, regional, and national presentations stemming directly from the fellowship.
Some highlights of the fellowship:
· *Fully funded position sponsored by Division of Trauma Research & Scholarship and supported by OhioHealth Research Institute
· *Educational curriculum with lectures on research design, literature search, biostatistics, interpreting literature
· *Opportunity to take call at Grant Medical Center
· *Full-time research fellowship with administrative, clinical, and statistician support
· *One-on-one mentorship and close involvement with trauma surgeon faculty
· *Opportunity to mentor medical students participating in Summer Research Externship Program
· *Fellowship is based in Columbus, but much work can be performed remotely
· *Salary is commensurate with PGY level at home institution

Requirements
Research Participation:
1. Engage in at least 5 studies (3 must be original) to include:
a. Prospective
i. Ohiohealth
ii. Multicenter trial
iii. AND
b. Retrospective
i. Ohiohealth
ii. Multicenter trial
iii. OR
c. Case Study
2. Fellows will mentor SREP students through their projects.
Productivity:
1. Fellows should present original research at a minimum:
a. 1 local/regional conference/symposium
b. 1 national conference
i. Podium presentation/poster presentation/”quick shot” presentation
2. Fellows should produce a minimum of 1 published paper of their own original research
3. Fellows should contribute to a minimum of 1 Multicenter Trial
Education:
1. Fellows will be expected to attend the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) Annual Meeting
a. September 20-23, 2023
2. Fellows will be expected to attend a minimum of
a. 1 national conference
b. 1 local conference/symposium
3. Fellows will be expected to design and deliver:
a. 2 research oriented lectures for resident staff
4. Fellows will be expected to complete CITI training for Good Clinical Practice [GCP]
5. Mandatory attendance at monthly educational meetings consisting of lectures and/or journal club.
6. Recommended Resources/Textbook:
a. Trochim, William, and James Donnelly. The Research Methods Knowledge Base. 3rd ed.
b. Pagano, Marcello, and Heather Mattie. Principles of Biostatistics. 3rd ed.
Clinical:
1. Fellows will be encouraged to take 1-2 clinical calls per month.
a. No more than 2 calls will be allowed unless the third call is a Saturday call
Hospital Presence:
1. Fellows are expected to be present at Grant Medical Center a minimum of 2 days/week.
a. Research activities, including data collection, may be performed from home provided project milestones are met.
2. Fellows are expected to be present for all necessary meetings (regulatory, informational, et cetera).
