Description
The Department of Pathology of UHCMC/CWRU in Cleveland, Ohio seeks a clinical pathologist or
PhD scientist with expertise in clinical histocompatibility testing to serve as Section Director of
Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. At UHCMC, the ASHI-accredited Histocompatibility and
Immunogenetics Laboratory (HIL) supports adult and pediatric organ transplant programs
including kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, and lung as well as hematopoietic cell transplant programs
for adults and children. The clinical transplant service lines are focused on continuous growth and
programmatic expansion with an approximate 320 organ allografts anticipated in 2025.
The Section Director will lead a team comprised of Histocompatibility Directors and laboratory
testing personnel to ensure the laboratory provides high-quality services and consultation for all
HLA-related testing including support of both hematopoietic and solid organ transplantation
programs. The ideal candidate will work to maintain the quality of current laboratory tests, expand
the test menu as clinically necessary, participate in clinical conferences, and assist in on-call service.
The successful candidate will be expected to support trainee and faculty development in
histocompatibility and immunogenetics through collaboration and teaching. Applicants with

Requirements
Candidates must hold an MD, DO and/or PhD (or equivalent) degree and be eligible for an
unrestricted Ohio medical license if holding an MD or DO. Previous experience in Immunology is
required. ASHI director certification or completion of an ASHI director training program are
required.
