Overview
The Senior Academic and Career Advisor is a part of the team responsible for managing the day-to-day academic operations of the Department of Technology Management and Innovation's Academic Programs. Serves as a member of the graduate advising team, helping students to articulate their academic goals and develop meaningful educational plans. This position will advise all department students on a wide range of internship and career planning areas; facilitating individual and group sessions throughout the academic year. In addition, the Advisor works with departmental advisors, administration, and other university offices to increase student employment outcomes, and would assist in determining graduate academic standing issues. Additionally, the Advisor will work to secure employment and internship opportunities in business and industry for students in all TMI academic programs (Management of Technology, Industrial Engineering, Business and Technology Management). Counsel, prepare and enhance the hiring potential of students and new graduates into the job market.
Responsibilities
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a related area
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs, or Public Relations
Required Experience:
3+ years experience in Academic/Career Advising; building employer relationships or public relations.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Must demonstrate the ability to work as a team member; to think creatively; and to evaluate and improve existing process and procedures. Must have strong and polished interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Must be able to comprehend and follow a diverse set of verbally communicated operational procedures with little guidance or training, self-manageable. Must be comfortable and professional in conducting business by telephone and in person. Position demands significant attention to detail, effective communications, team collaboration and working on weekends. The willingness to respond to the needs of students and employers in an increasingly technologically- oriented society.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Well informed of labor market trends, employer needs and best practices in career services. Familiar with social media platforms and developing/implementing social media campaigns. Expertise in career development issues affecting our constituents (graduate engineering students) and associated professionals. Understanding and experience in working with international and domestic students in higher education. Familiarity with the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) processes.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,173.36 to USD $85,767.44. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
