Job Description
The Hope College Chemistry Department (www.hope.edu/academic/chemistry/) invites applications for a one-year term position. The teaching position is full-time (ca. 12 contact hours/wk) on a 9 month contract to begin August 2026. The position is expected to be offered at the Visiting Assistant Professor level. Candidates should either have completed a Ph.D. in chemistry by July 2026, or have a masters degree in chemistry with college chemistry teaching experience as the instructor of record.
The position will include teaching responsibilities in the general chemistry classroom and laboratory sequence. Secondary assignments may be possible in the candidate's specialty or in non-majors courses.

About The Chemistry Department:
The department is a flagship program of the College and its CUR AURA award-winning Division of Natural & Applied Science. A wide range of modern instrumentation and state-of-the-art facilities are available for teaching and research in the Schaap Science Center which opened in 2003. The Chemistry Department graduates approximately forty majors annually among a variety of degree tracks. The department is approved by the American Chemical Society and offers both ACS and (jointly with the Biology Department) ASBMB certified degrees. We are routinely recognized for being national leader in authentic student-faculty collaborative research, characterized by consistent external funding and peer-reviewed research publications, for nearly a century. Our graduates go on to great success in graduate and professional programs as well as directly into industry. Historically the number of Hope graduates earning a PhD in Chemistry is in the top 1% of all 614 US baccalaureate institutions, and our medical school acceptance rate is nearly 90%.
