The Department of Fine Arts and Art History at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant professor in Music.
The successful candidate will carry a dual role as conductor of the AUB choir and as the director of the minor degree in music currently offered by the department.
The successful candidate will work to develop and guide the minor degree in Music towards a BA degree. Experience in curricular development and/or academic administration would be an asset. Contributions to service include collaborating with the Zaki Nassif Program for Music.
In their role as director of the music program, the successful candidate will promote and develop a curricular emphasis on Arabic or other non-Western musical traditions with particular attention to global improvisational traditions and/or composition.
In their position as choir conductor, the successful applicant will work with the university to raise funds and promote the formation of a high-quality and innovative choral ensemble.
We seek a colleague who can offer introductory and intermediate courses in a range of areas (eg. history, theory), as well as advanced courses in areas of specialization. We particularly welcome candidates with experience arranging for and working with diverse small ensembles.
The position will start in August of 2026.

Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate evidence of teaching and research excellence. The applicant must hold a terminal degree in the field with a preference for doctorate holders. The language of instruction is English.
