Company Profile

Life Adventure Center

Company Overview

Life Adventure Center uses outdoor adventure to transform lives affected by trauma and build more resilient people for a better world.

Company History

Life Adventure Center’s roots trace back to the post-Civil War era with the founding of The Cleveland Home, an orphanage in Versailles, Kentucky. Established by John Cleveland, who generously willed his estate to support the home’s mission, the organization laid a foundation of service and care that continues today.

In the 1970s, a group of visionary community leaders, including Ross and Cathie Brown and their children, founded Life Adventure Camp in Estill County, Kentucky. Their mission was to serve behaviorally challenged youth through immersive wilderness experiences that built resilience, self-efficacy, and essential life skills like communication and coping.

In the early 2000s, the Cleveland Home and Life Adventure Camp merged, relocating to our current home in the rolling hills of Woodford County. In 2005, we reopened as Life Adventure Center of the Bluegrass, continuing our commitment to experiential learning and personal growth.

Over the past several years, we’ve refined our mission to focus on serving individuals and groups impacted by trauma. Thanks to the thoughtful stewardship of John Cleveland’s estate and the generosity of our donors and supporters, we are proud to subsidize, in full or in part, every nonprofit and school group we serve.
