The ABCD-HBCD START Fellowship is now accepting applications for our one-year hybrid research training program designed to support emerging researchers from historically excluded communities in conducting research using ABCD or HBCD data. Must be a doctoral student, postdoctoral fellow, or early career faculty. Applications due October 10th.
The fellowship includes:
- A $4,000 stipend
- Funded travel to Burlington, Vermont and Los Angeles, California
- A supportive and collaborative research community
- Personalized mentorship and research training
Ideal applicants are interested in substance use, adolescent health, early brain and child development, and pursuing research-oriented careers. Prior statistical or data analysis experience is helpful but not required.

- The Scientific Training in Addiction Research Techniques (START) Program is a comprehensive research education program dedicated to enhancing the substance misuse research workforce. START specifically prepares investigators to access, analyze and disseminate data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study and the HEALthy Brain and Cognitive Development (HBCD) Study at the University of Vermont.
- Each scholar will be paired with a START mentor and will complete a mandatory mentorship orientation in which they work together to establish goals, expectations, the mentoring format and an action plan.
- START scholars will be supported by a mentoring mosaic during the program. This will include the primary START mentor, the START leadership, peer mentors (alumni) and the other trainees. It will also include active inclusion of the nationwide ABCD and HBCD consortium, providing valuable networking and educational opportunities.

Requirements
- Current standing as a graduate student, postdoctoral scholar or faculty member
- Willing to include analysis of HEALthy Brain and Cognitive Development (HBCD) or Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study data in future research portfolio
