Job Purpose:

The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor position (tenure-track) in Neuroscience beginning August 16, 2027. We are seeking a neuroscientist whose research investigates the neural mechanisms underlying human cognition, perception, and/or behavior. We welcome candidates from a range of areas within human neuroscience, with particular interest in researchers whose work could utilize our existing electroencephalography (EEG) and/or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) facilities and provide meaningful research opportunities for undergraduate students. Courses will include a mixture of introductory-level Psychology and Neuroscience courses and upper-division Neuroscience courses. Essential Functions:

• Teach an equivalent to 9 credits each semester, typically three lecture sections (3 credits each) per semester. Teaching areas will be matched to candidates' preparation and interests according to program and department needs, but will include a mixture of introductory-level Neuroscience courses, such as NEUR 201: Introduction to Neuroscience, and upper-division courses that support both the Neuroscience and Psychology majors. These may include BIOL 376: Cellular Neurophysiology, HPHY 451: Systems Neurophysiology, NEUR 399: Scientific Communication, NEUR 499: Neuroscience and Society, PSYC 300: Biological Psychology, PSYC 381: Affective Neuroscience, and PSYC 404: Psychology of Addiction, as well as advanced seminar courses in the candidate's area of scholarly expertise.
• Develop a successful neuroscience research program providing quality research experiences to undergraduates. A successful researcher will publish in peer reviewed journals and seek external research funding.
• Provide academic and career advising and mentoring to 15 - 25 undergraduate students per year in the associated Neuroscience major, starting in the second year.
• Support the Psychology and Neuroscience department, the College of Arts and Sciences, and university through service and other forms of academic citizenship while maintaining close relationships with departments collaborating with the Neuroscience Program such as Biology and Human Physiology.
• Engage in professional activities that inform teaching, enhance student experience, and help the faculty member to remain current in their field.
• Maintain standards of professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a closely related field.
• At least one year experience teaching undergraduate students in relevant courses.
• Evidence of a research program focused on the neural mechanisms underlying human cognition, perception, and/or behavior that utilizes, or could be advanced through, methods such as electroencephalography (EEG) and/or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least one year of postdoctoral work or a similar experience.
• Evidence of engaging, inclusive teaching at the undergraduate level.
• Evidence of effectiveness in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
• Evidence of peer-reviewed scholarship.
