Wayne State University School of Medicine and Wayne Health are seeking a physician leader of unique vision, enthusiasm, and experience for the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Internal Medicine, one of the largest clinical departments in the School of Medicine. Gastroenterology at Wayne Health is a recognized leader in the treatment of liver disease.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

This unique opportunity is designed for an entrepreneurial-minded, market-driven clinical leader to oversee the strategic growth and direction for all aspects of the division with an emphasis on operational integration. The Chief of Gastroenterology will be responsible for all planning, policy, operations, and oversight of the division’s academic, research, and clinical programs.

Under the leadership and guidance of the esteemed Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, the Division Chief must be able to balance clinical leadership with educational responsibilities tied to the GI Fellowship Program and quality outcomes.

The successful candidate will be recognized as an outstanding leader with a track record in clinical care, research, and teaching at a nationally recognized program. The Chief will demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism, personal commitment, integrity, and leadership while advancing the department’s mission. Current board certification in Gastroenterology is required. The ideal candidate will bring an entrepreneurial leadership style with a demonstrated ability to drive strategic growth.

The DMC and its facilities maintain an ongoing educational and clinical affiliation with the Wayne State University School of Medicine, serving as a regional training site. This setting and our referral patterns provide an unparalleled diversity of patients and GI/liver conditions. Major areas of research include Chronic liver disease, Chronic viral hepatitis, Colorectal cancer, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

• Educational and training programs, including the GI Fellowship Program
• Research programs
• Patient care programs
• Recruitment and retention of diverse faculty and staff
• Physician lead for Gastroenterology services at Wayne Health
  
  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Michigan.
• Board certification in Gastroenterology is required.
• Be eligible for medical staff privileges at Wayne Health.
• Have greater than five (5) years of progressively complex administrative experience (e.g., program leader, center/section director, etc.) in an academic medical center setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient care, reflecting a service-oriented, team-based philosophy with hospital administration and health professional colleagues from all disciplines, departments, and specialties.
• Successful track record of recruitment and development of faculty, trainees, and students.
  
  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Additional health profession degree (e.g., PhD, MPH, MS, etc.).
• Have previous experience in the development and successful implementation of new academic (educational, patient care, research) programs and services.
• Demonstrate current or previous leadership in major subspecialty division/section at an academic department of internal medicine.
