Description
Richfield United Methodist Church of Minneapolis, MN is hiring for a Choir Director position. We are seeking an energetic, organized, and missional-minded person for this part-time ministry to lead the SATB Chancel Choir and encourage music throughout the life of the church community. Richfield UMC is a progressive and reconciling congregation with a strong sense of social justice outreach, fostering intergenerational connections through discovery, adventure and fun. We have a rich musical heritage in our 172-year history with a strong choral tradition.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Promote and maintain an enthusiastic, worshipful, joyous, high-quality music ministry.
2. Lead Chancel Choir (plus soloists and/or ensembles) on Wednesday evenings and for Sunday morning worship services and special services including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Lessons & Carols (Advent), and/or “Music Splash” (May).
3. Select music appropriate to the worship setting and musicianship of the choir.
4. Encourage participation and enjoyment of the musical ministries of the church.
5. Work with the pastor, music staff, church staff, church members, and/or other teams as needed.
Requirements
- Commitment to God’s presence of inclusivity for all and a passion for the mission of the church.
- Competent musician and director, with knowledge and value of both sacred and contemporary spiritual music in a variety of styles.
- Self-starter to work both independently and with teams to stay organized, maintaining a big-picture view of their music ministry.
- Dependable communication skills (verbal, written, electronic) that are welcoming, prompt, and professional.
- Strong interpersonal skills including healthy boundaries and confidentiality.
- Understanding of or openness to learning about United Methodist worship music, traditions, and practice preferred.
- BA or BS degree in related field and 1-3+ years of music-related experience preferred.
- We are also open to the right person looking to gain experience, and students currently enrolled in a music-related degree program at a local accredited institution are encouraged to apply.
