Description
About the Campaign
Senator Scott Wiener is a leading voice for progress in California and a proven champion for our values. As an elected official representing voters in the Bay Area, he has delivered real results on issues like housing, transportation, climate change, LGBTQ+ equality, and criminal justice reform. Now, Senator Wiener is running for Congress to bring his effective, progressive leadership to Washington D.C. His campaign is building a diverse, passionate, and dedicated team to engage voters across the district and secure victory in 2026.
Position Summary
The Digital Director will own the campaign's social media and digital content output and lead how Senator Wiener shows up online. We are looking for a content-first, social-first operator who lives on the platforms voters actually use, knows what's working in political content right now, and is excited to test new tactics in a high-profile, politically complex congressional race.
The Digital Director will manage the full content pipeline from idea to post — generating ideas, scripting, filming, editing, posting, and tracking performance — and will manage the campaign's Social Media Manager. They will lead influencer and creator outreach, build content partnerships with supporters and endorsing organizations, and coordinate with the senior staff on email, digital organizing, SMS, and paid digital strategy.
This is a high-visibility role with significant ownership, a small team to manage, room to grow, and the chance to shape a modern congressional campaign.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media & Content
Own the campaign's organic social presence across Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, and emerging platforms.
Run the full content pipeline — generate ideas, write scripts, film, edit, post, and analyze.
Build a steady drumbeat of short-form video content (Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts) that reflects the candidate’svoice, the campaign's message, and what's actually breaking through online.
Manage and develop the campaign's Social Media Manager, including setting weekly content goals, reviewing scripts and edits, and providing creative direction.
Step in personally to film and edit when the Social Media Manager is out, traveling, or stretched — this is a hands-on role, not a strategy-only role.
Track performance across platforms and use the data to iterate quickly.
Digital Strategy Coordination
Serve as the campaign's primary internal lead on digital, working closely with our digital consultant and other staff on email, SMS, paid digital, and online fundraising strategy.
Help shape email and SMS calendars, voice, and audience strategy, and review key sends.
Advise the Campaign Manager and senior staff on how digital fits into broader strategic, communications, and fundraising decisions.
Coordinate with the Communications Director and Organizing Director to make sure organic content, paid digital, press, and field organizing are pulling in the same direction.
Influencer & Creator Outreach
Build and manage a program to engage California-based and national progressive content creators, influencers, and podcasters.
Develop pitches, content packages, and talking points that make it easy for creators to engage with the campaign and the Senator.
Coordinate creator visits, interviews, and on-the-ground content opportunities tied to campaign events.
Supporter & Endorser Content Partnerships
Build relationships with high-impact supporters and endorsing organizations to co-create content that reaches their audiences.
Work with endorsing labor unions, advocacy groups, and elected officials to produce joint videos, statements, and social posts.
Identify rising voices and unexpected validators who can carry the campaign's message into communities we need to reach.
Team & Campaign Integration
Work directly with the Senator and senior staff to plan content moments around major campaign milestones, news events, and rapid response opportunities.
Partner with the Digital Organizing Manager to convert digital reach into volunteers, donors, and votes.
Stay current on platform changes, political content trends, AI tools, and new tactics — and bring tested ideas back to the team.
Requirements
Qualifications
2+ cycles of digital experience on political campaigns, advocacy organizations, or in a senior in-house digital role for an elected official, OR equivalent experience leading social and content strategy in a comparable fast-moving environment.
Demonstrated track record running social accounts that grew, broke through, and drove real outcomes — not just posted on schedule.
Strong hands-on production skills: comfortable shooting on a phone, editing in CapCut, Premiere, or equivalent, and turning around polished short-form video on a tight timeline.
Sharp eye for what works on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, and a real interest in how political content is evolving across creators, podcasts, and non-traditional media.
Experience managing direct reports or junior staff, with the patience to coach and the standards to hold a high bar.
Comfort coordinating with outside consultants and different departments on SMS, and paid digital programs, as well as using these platforms yourself
Excellent writing — short, sharp, and on voice.
Curious, scrappy, and willing to test new tools and tactics. Familiarity with AI content tools is a plus.
Strong political instincts and judgment, especially in a sensitive, high-profile race with a high-information electorate.
Ability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, and to be in person in San Francisco.
Commitment to progressive values
