About Us
Educational Opportunities, Inc. (EdOp) is committed to expanding four-year college access for high-achieving, lower-income Dallas Independent School District magnet students by providing scholarships and mentoring. Founded in 1965, EdOp is a nonprofit organization supporting approximately 55 students annually through renewable scholarships of up to $10,000 per year and personalized mentoring from our Board of Trustees.
Position Overview
The Director of Development plays a vital role in bringing EdOp’s mission to life by exploring and executing fund-raising programs. This part-time employee focuses on grant writing, donor relations, and implementing an annual fund drive. The director reports to the Executive Director, working together to strengthen the financial stability and success of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Donor Relations
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure financial support from both new and existing individuals and foundations.
- Work with board members to learn more about existing and potential donors.
- Attend Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Development Committee meetings.
- Plan introductory and recognition events.
- Process all donations, ensuring timely acknowledgments and deposit tracking.
- Report weekly to the Executive Director on fundraising efforts.
Grant Development
- Create a grant calendar to include foundations supporting educational non-profits and their deadlines.
- Cultivate relationships with heads of foundations to learn more about funding practices and strategies.
- Write and submit a minimum of two grants per month to foundations.
Annual Fund
- Facilitate annual fall fund-raising campaign including donor letters, Impact Report included in mailing, board member signing event, and donor acknowledgements.
Data Integrity
- Maintain accurate donor records in Salesforce, ensuring data is organized and accessible.
- Prepare and manage reports related to fund-raising projections and year-to-date donations.
Financial Management
- Collaborate with Executive Director and CPA for fiscal management, including generating monthly and quarterly financial reports, preparing the annual budget, and identifying fundraising goals.
- Assist if needed with managing the disbursement of scholarship funds and tuition checks, coordinating with the Executive Director and CPA to ensure timely payments.
Communications
- Elevate community awareness through quarterly newsletters to donors highlighting student success, EdOp events, donor recognitions, and other success stories.
- Create social media posts, website updates, and stories that uplift student voices and highlight mission impact.
- Develop reports for EdOp board meetings reflecting donor and grant progress.
- Assist the Executive Director with Board communications, programming and engagement.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related fields such as Education, Business Administration, or liberal arts.
- Experience in fundraising, grant-seeking, nonprofit leadership and program management.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in computer software and database management, such as Microsoft Office suite, Salesforce or similar platforms.
- Must live in the Dallas area and have access to a home office or workspace
Compensation:
This is a part-time position offering competitive compensation based on experience.
