JOB TITLE: Director of Golf
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Operations

SCOPE OF POSITION:
Manage and oversee all aspects of Kohanaiki's Golf Operations program, assuring the highest quality of standards. The Director of Golf is expected to be the visible leader of the Golf team, with a primary focus on training and developing mid-managers, overseeing administrative tasks as related to the Golf Operation, and instilling a world-class golf experience in all aspects of the operation. Secondarily, but equally important to ensuring administrative tasks are accomplished, the Director will be spending much of their time interacting with members and guests around the club recommending club events and activities, playing (as appropriate) with various groups of the membership, inspecting the golf course, comfort stations, members shop, and other areas of the operation and ensuring uncompromising standards, anticipating needs, and directing the Golf Operations team to assure excellence and seamless organization throughout the operation. The Director of Golf will directly supervise the Head Golf Professional, Assistant Golf Professionals, Merchandise Manager, and all other Golf Operations employees. This is an upper management position within Kohanaiki that will be one of the key faces of Club Leadership both to employees and members of Kohanaiki.
Essential Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a welcoming and positive relationship with members and colleagues.
- Provide a highly visible and engaging style of leadership. Create an open-door environment where all staff feel supported and encouraged to perform at the highest level.
- Manage and oversee Golf Operations team to ensure a positive and cohesive work environment; provide delegation of duties to ensure daily, weekly, monthly, and annual tasks are completed on time and to a quality expected of a high-end private club.
- Hire, train, supervise, and schedule all Golf Operations employees.
- Appraise performance of Golf Operations team members through 90-day and annual performance evaluations.
- Develop, revise, and maintain standard operating procedures, training manuals, and checklists.
- Gather member/guest/prospect preferences, record such preferences, and disseminating preferences amongst the team.
- Develop the annual operating and capital budgets for the Golf Operations department, projecting number of rounds, guest fees, sales, and relevant expenses for payroll and operations within parameters provided by the Vice President of Operations and CEO.
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly revenue and expense forecasts and ensure accuracy of financial reporting information as well as ensuring all A/P and A/R are handled in a timely fashion.
- Establish a world-class golf instructional program commensurate with the expectations of Kohanaiki.
- Ensure that the merchandise and retail operations of the Kohanaiki Member Shop are of the highest quality and appropriate cost control measures are in place.
- Ensure uncompromising standards of presentation and cleanliness within the Golf Operation, work in coordination with the Director of Grounds and Director of Food and Beverage to coordinate needs and assess conditions regularly of both the golf course and the amenities of the Golf Operation.
- Ensure all sanitation standards not only in comply with but exceed government guidelines with regard to all areas of the Golf Operation.
- Coordinate training of Golf Operations team in hospitality, club operations and hotel operations as to ensure Kohanaiki always remain at the forefront of the hospitality industry.
- Plan and coordinate all member tournaments and events, delegating responsibilities as appropriate to the Head Golf Professional and Assistant Golf Professionals.
- Promote all amenities, conveniences, and programs offered at Kohanaiki.
- Provide deliberate direction to leadership that is acquired by being in direct contact with members and hearing out their needs and feedback.
- Establish friendly relationships with all Kohanaiki Members and Employees.
- Coordinate Golf Operations needs with other Kohanaiki departments (Food and Beverage, Member Services, Golf Course Maintenance, etc.)
- Ensure members and guests are properly greeted upon their arrival by communicating with Member Services and Security Teams.
- Maintain good relationships with Golf Operations teams at other club and resorts.
- Maintain membership in PGA of America as well as any other organizations related to Golf, Club or Hotel Industry, as approved by the Vice President of Operations.
- Recommend and plan Golf Operations team trainings as to both develop team members and ensure appropriate levels of knowledge of golf club and hotel operations.
- Have knowledge and be able to speak about Hawaiian Culture and cultural & environmental history of Kona and Hawai'i Island.
- Attend all staff and management meetings.
- Will honor, undertake, and complete other appropriate assignments and additional duties as delegated by the Vice President of Operations and Chief Executive Officer.
