Ray Quinney & Nebeker P.C., one of Utah’s premier full-service law firms, is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Marketing & Business Development to lead the growth, branding, and client acquisition strategies for our 100-lawyer firm headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Serving as the Firm's senior marketing and business development leader, this individual will partner directly with Firm leadership and practice group chairs to design and execute marketing initiatives, optimize attorney business development efforts, and elevate the firm's competitive footprint throughout Utah and the Intermountain West. This individual will also supervise and direct the Firm’s external digital marketing and branding firm.
We welcome marketing leaders either from within the legal industry or from sophisticated corporate, professional services, or B2B sectors who can bring innovative, institutional-grade marketing frameworks to our Firm and practice groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Growth & Business Development: Collaborate directly with Firm Leadership, Practice Group Chairs, and individual partners to build, track, and execute effective business development plans. Identify cross-selling opportunities, map market trends, and drive proactive client-development pursuits.
- RFP & Pitch Management: Oversee responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), customized pitch materials, and client presentations.
Brand Positioning & Integrated Marketing: Manage and direct the Firm’s external brand identity, digital footprint, website infrastructure, SEO strategy, social media presence, and targeted campaigns. - Public Relations & Thought Leadership: Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national legal and industry media. Direct the distribution of attorney thought leadership, legal alerts, and articles to drive visible market authority.
- Directory Rankings & Awards: Direct the research and drafting process for critical legal directories, industry honors, and rankings (including Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, and local business recognitions).
- Budgetary Oversight & ROI Analytics: Establish, manage, and optimize the annual firm-wide marketing and business development budget. Utilize CRM software and analytical tools to measure the return on investment (ROI) of marketing expenditures and initiatives.
- Events and Sponsorships: Plan and execute client events, seminars, webinars, sponsorships, networking activities, and community engagement initiatives.
- External Relationships: Manage relationships with marketing vendors, advertising agencies, professional associations, and strategic partners. Serve as the firm’s primary liaison with marketing-related affiliations.

Requirements
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Professional Experience: 7+ years of progressive marketing and business development experience, with at least 3 years in senior management or director-level capacity.
- Industry Versatility: Experience in a mid-to-large law firm is highly valued but not required. We encourage applications from accomplished marketing leaders from corporate, B2B, and professional services environments (e.g., accounting, consulting, architecture, or engineering) who have a track record of driving growth in sophisticated relationship-based organizations.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or a related field required. An advanced degree (MBA or JD) is a distinct advantage.
- Leadership and Influence: Exceptional emotional intelligence and a collaborative leadership style are essential.
- Technology Proficiency: Practical experience leveraging modern marketing technology stacks, including advanced CRM platforms, marketing automation tools, website analytics, and professional networks (e.g., LinkedIn Campaign Manager).
