Requirements
The Director of Meetings & Events is a senior leadership role responsible for the end-to-end strategy, planning, and flawless execution of SIBF's meetings and events portfolio. This individual brings deep expertise in high-end meeting management, exceptional relationship-building skills with vendors, partners, and stakeholders, and the operational excellence required to deliver memorable, on-brand experiences. The Director oversees a portfolio of events that reflects the prestige, mission, and global reputation of SIBF while advancing member engagement and organizational objectives.
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual meetings and events strategy that advances SIBF's mission, strengthens its brand, and delivers exceptional value to members.
- Serve as the organization's senior authority on meetings and events, providing strategic direction on industry trends, emerging technologies, attendee engagement, and operational best practices.
- Partner with the Executive Director, senior leadership team, and Board of Directors to identify event-related opportunities, assess risks, and ensure the organization's event portfolio supports SIBF's long-term strategic objectives.
- Drive innovation across the meetings portfolio by continuously evaluating new formats, technologies, and experiential approaches that enhance member engagement and organizational impact.
Event Planning & Execution
- Lead all phases of the event lifecycle for SIBF's portfolio of national, regional, and virtual programs, including the flagship Annual Summit, executive briefings, and local events.
- Oversee site selection, contract negotiations, and vendor management for hotels, audiovisual providers, caterers, transportation companies, and other event partners.
- Direct the development of detailed project timelines, run-of-show documents, operational plans, and contingency strategies to ensure flawless event execution.
Provide executive oversight of all on-site operations, serving as the primary liaison with venues, vendors, and key stakeholders to ensure exceptional attendee experiences. - Lead, mentor, and oversee the Senior Meetings Manager when necessary, providing strategic direction, operational guidance, and support to ensure successful planning and execution across all events.
Budget and Financial Management
- Develop and manage the annual events budget, monitor expenses against projections, and ensure programs remain on budget.
- Negotiate favorable contracts with hotels, venues, and vendors while identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising the attendee experience.
- Prepare post-event financial reconciliations, analyze results, and provide ROI and budget reports to senior leadership.
Stakeholder and Member Engagement
- Collaborate with membership, communications, and program teams to ensure event content aligns with member needs and organizational priorities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, speakers, and VIP guests to enhance the quality, prestige, and financial success of events.
- Gather and analyze attendee feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enhance the overall member experience.
Team and Vendor Leadership
- Manage event staff and contractors
- Collaborate extensively with internal staff, volunteer leaders, vendors, hotels, and destination partners to successfully deliver high-quality programs.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships and ensure all partners meet SIBF's standards for quality, reliability, professionalism, and service excellence.

Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and/or Certified Meeting Manager (CMM) designation.
- Experience working with a not-for-profit membership association or professional society.
- Proficiency with association management systems (AMS) and event registration platforms and integrations.
- Experience planning and producing hybrid and virtual meetings, including the technology, logistics, and attendee experience required for successful delivery.
