Job Description:
First Presbyterian Church of Prattville, AL is a growing, vibrant, conservative, evangelical Reformed church centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and deeply committed to the Word of God (as confessed in the Westminster Standards). This congregation celebrates traditional worship in the Reformed style, and we are seeking a part-time Director of Music. A Bachelors degree in Church Music, Sacred Music, Organ, Choral Conducting, or equivalent experience is required with 3 years or more experience in music leadership preferred. We seek a talented individual with a call to serve the church with excellence and with an understanding that this position will have a great impact upon the worship life of the church. The Director of Music will also be comfortable serving in the theological expression and worship style of the Presbyterian Church in America. The Director of Music will work in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Senior Pastor (reporting directly to him). The Director of Music will also work with other church leadership (e.g. the elders) to develop and implement a successful Music Ministry including budgeting, administration, and scheduling.
Requirements
The successful candidate will:
Have a high level of artistry and proficiency in sacred choral music in the Protestant Reformed style in keeping with a traditional expression of the PCA church.
Be comfortable with a wide mix of musical styles including, but not limited to, traditional Presbyterian hymnody, psalms, Classical church choir repertoire, current repertoire, etc.
Lead with skill, patience, and enthusiasm to develop and recruit members of all ages and experience levels for an Adult Chancel Choir that rehearses weekly (currently on Wednesday evening) and leads singing each Sunday morning
Work in collaboration with church leadership to provide opportunities for a growing number of children and youth in the church to participate in worship through music
The successful candidate must work in a warm, friendly, and gracious manner and should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and should be self-motivated and creative and must understand the importance of the role of music in the overall ministry of the church.
Supervises a part-time church pianist/organist, all accompanists, and scholarship singers, and will coordinate with individual guest instrumentalists and contracted musicians.
