- Expedition Tween Camp Director
Description
The Day Camp Director has the responsibility for planning and implementing all activities of the Expedition Tween Camp and the hiring and supervising of staff. Responsible for acting as the site supervisor and creating a challenging daily curriculum, insuring the safety of the children, and building positive relationships with staff, children and parents. Expedition Tween camp is an adventure style day camp for 11 and 12 year old's. Applicants must be 21+ and drive a city van.
Requirements
Duties may include but not limited to:
Planning, scheduling, organizing and implementing challenging daily activities and special
camp events on a daily basis.
Supervising and giving directions to Day Camp Leaders and volunteer staff.
Assist day camp staff with camp management and/or instruction on an as needed basis.
Build positive relationships with staff, children and parents.
Provide/purchase supplies when needed.
Providing work schedules, on site management and training to staff.
Collecting day camp tuition.
Provide a weekly newsletter to day camp parents.
Work with Recreation Supervisor in planning activities.
Assist with hiring staff.
Budgeting, maintaining accurate records such as accident reports and discipline reports,
obtaining working knowledge of social services guidelines for day camp providers.
Marketing and evaluating the program.
Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both written and verbal manner with participants, parents, co-workers and the general public. React quickly and correctly in emergency situations, make sound judgements, exercise conflict resolution and exhibit patience when dealing with stressful disciplinary situations. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and ability to produce newsletters, flyers and other documents.
The camp director must have verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting, or 4-H; and the program director must have completed at least one of the following qualifications. A 4-year college degree with a major such as recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field. Two years of college training and 6 months of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer experience since attaining the age of 18, in the care of supervision of 4 or more children.
Three years of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer experience since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of 4 or more children. The Program Director must complete 6 semester hours, 9 quarter hours, or 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first 9 months of employment. Relevant/practical experience working with people with special needs desirable.
Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License, and CPR/First Aid certification upon hiring.
