Salary Range: $55,000$65,000 annually

The Place is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Finance Director to provide leadership and oversight of the organizations financial operations.

The Place is a growing nonprofit organization serving children, youth, and families throughout Chenango County and the surrounding region. Our programs span early childhood, school-age childcare, teen programming, youth development, family support, supervised visitation, workforce development, prevention, and community-based services.

As our organization continues to grow, we are looking for a Finance Director who can ensure strong financial systems, accurate reporting, effective internal controls, and sound financial planning.
Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Director is responsible for the overall financial management of The Place. This position oversees accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, payroll and accounts payable processes, grant and contract financial management, cash flow, audit preparation, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting to organizational leadership and the Board of Directors.

The Finance Director will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure that financial information supports both day-to-day operations and long-term organizational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the organizations accounting and financial management functions.
• Maintain accurate and timely financial records and general ledger activity.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Develop and monitor the annual organizational budget in partnership with the Executive Director.
• Monitor program, grant, contract, and departmental budgets.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, and bank reconciliations.
• Oversee payroll-related financial processes and reconciliations.
• Track restricted and unrestricted funding and ensure expenses are properly allocated.
• Support financial management of government contracts, grants, childcare funding, and other revenue sources.
• Prepare financial documentation for grant reimbursement and reporting requirements.
• Maintain appropriate internal controls and financial policies.
• Coordinate preparation for the organizations annual audit/review and work with outside accountants and auditors.
• Assist with preparation of information required for the organizations Form 990 and other regulatory filings.
• Prepare financial reports and analysis for the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
• Monitor organizational cash flow and identify emerging financial concerns.
• Support financial forecasting and long-term planning as The Place continues to expand.
• Ensure financial practices are consistent with nonprofit accounting standards, organizational policies, and applicable funding requirements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• A bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience in accounting, financial management, or nonprofit finance.
• Strong understanding of budgeting, financial statements, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience with grant-funded or contract-funded programs strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and restricted-fund management preferred.
• Experience working with accounting and payroll software.
• Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple funding streams, deadlines, and priorities.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to individuals who may not have a financial background.
• High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, judgment, and integrity.

Experience working in a nonprofit, childcare, human services, youth development, or government-funded environment is especially valuable.
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $55,000$65,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
