Description

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis is accepting advanced surgical fellowship applications for Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program.

The heart failure surgery program performs annually about 70 heart transplants (DBD, DCD NRP and DCD OCS), 40 Durable LVADs, 400 temporary mechanical support devices (ECMO/Impella 5.5), low EF conventional coronary artery bypass and valve surgery and general adult cardiac surgery cases. Apart from these surgeries, fellows will be involved in perioperative care, multidisciplinary team management with heart failure cardiology, DBD and DCD NRP heart procurements.

There will be encouragement and support for outcome-based research activity, presenting in national/international meetings. The program also participates in national trials involving durable LVADs, temporary heart assist devices and donor heart preservation techniques.

This is a one-year fellowship program starting July 1, 2027.

Requirements:

Proof of completion of ACGME or equivalent Cardiothoracic Surgery training program before starting the advanced fellowship.

Board certification from ABTS or board eligibility or board equivalent

For Foreign graduates, ECFMG certification, USMLE step I, II, III scores are essential apart from the above
