- Postdoc on heteroresistance and phenotypic heterogeneity
Description
Postdoc on the evolution of heteroresistance and phenotypic heterogeneity in bacteria at Kiel, Germany
Application deadline: 27. August 2026.
The postdoc position is for 5 years and it is based in the Schulenburg group (https://evoecogen-kiel.de/). The research is part of the ERC project on CrypticBenefits and aims at understanding how antimicrobial heteroresistance and more generally phenotypic heterogeneity evolves in bacteria. As a model, we will focus on the opportunistic bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The work combines evolution experiments with whole genome sequence analysis, bacterial genetics, and functional analysis. As a general reference, check out the group’s publications on AMR evolution, as listed on our webpage (https://evoecogen-kiel.de/publications).
For enquiries regarding the position and research topic please contact Prof. Dr. Hinrich Schulenburg: hschulenburg@zoologie.uni-kiel.de
