The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, always “in search of excellence”, is working with more than 200 ophthalmologists and visual scientists in Hong Kong and Mainland China. We are committed to advancing clinical services, research, training, and education, to the highest standard in all major areas of Ophthalmology and the visual sciences. Applicants should possess: (i) a PhD degree and a strong academic background in biomedical engineering, translational chemistry, biomaterials, or molecular biology; (ii) preferably at least two years of postdoctoral research experience; (iii) a competitive publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals, demonstrated research achievements, preferably related to ophthalmology; and (iv) a strong ability to lead research projects, with self-motivation, initiative in problem-solving, and clear potential to rapidly develop into an independent Principal Investigator. Proven research experience and success in securing research funding will be advantageous.
The appointee(s) will be responsible for (a) conducting, coordinating and supervising independent and/or collaborative research projects on drug discovery and modification/drug delivery system development/disease mechanisms; (b) actively pursuing external research grants; (c) supervising research students and staff; (d) administrative tasks related to research; and (e) performing other departmental tasks as assigned.
Appointment(s) will initially be made on contract basis for up to two years (with contract-end gratuity for a 2-year contract) commencing as soon as possible, renewal subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
